Canning Vale: Fraser Rd and Fraser Rd North to have name change

Ben SmithCanning Gazette

From July 1, Fraser Road North in the City of Gosnells will be known as Boardman Road and the part of Fraser Road in the City of Canning will be renamed Candeloro Road.

Geographic Names Committee chairman Bruce Roberts said the original names were too similar and caused confusion.

“There have been instances where emergency service vehicles have gone to the wrong address, which is clearly dangerous and unacceptable,” he said.

“Road names are rarely changed; this is being done because the names are too similar and both in the same suburb of Canning Vale.

“We understand this may be inconvenient for some residents and are very sympathetic to their concerns, but community safety must come first.”

Mr Roberts said the name change was mooted after residents reported on-going difficulties with deliveries, in addition to the confusion |experienced by emergency services.

He said they had advised Australia Post, WA Police, St John Ambulance, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, WA Electoral Commission and the Water Corporation of the decision.
