The Art of Wellbeing: Richmond Wellbeing launches inaugural art competition

Emma GearyCanning Gazette

NOT-FOR-PROFIT organisation Richmond Wellbeing launched its inaugural ‘The Art of Wellbeing’ competition and exhibition in Cannington last week.

The exhibition will provide members of the WA Aboriginal community with an opportunity to share their culture through their art by submitting their interpretations of wellbeing in their chosen artistic form, such as painting, photography and sculpture.

Up to 20 finalists will be selected from the entries received and from these an overall winner will be chosen.

The finalists will be paid for their artwork, which will be auctioned at a corporate event to raise funds for the organisation’s Aboriginal program.

The winner of the competition will be given the opportunity to work with artist Janine Daddo and Noongar artist Wendy Hayden.

Richmond Wellbeing chief executive Neil Guard said the art exhibition offered budding Aboriginal artists exposure to the wider community.

“Essentially this is a call-out to all aspiring Aboriginal artists to be part of an exciting project that has the potential to enhance their artistic careers, while also giving back to support their communities,” he said.

Richmond Wellbeing specialises in mental health recovery and is celebrating its work with the Aboriginal community by establishing the art competition and exhibition.
