Working at Christmas no burden for SwanCare Bentley cook Lorette Mattar

Pia van StraalenCanning Gazette

DEDICATED cook Lorette Mattar is among many dedicated care staff across Perth spending December 25 at work.

Far from feeling it a festive burden, Ms Mattar said working Christmas Day with her ‘second family’ at Bentley’s SwanCare was nothing short of a privilege.

“It’s actually really wonderful to work on Christmas day and help to bring happiness to our residents,” she said.

“Not everyone can spend Christmas Day with their own family and so everyone here at SwanCare is really keen to make the day as joyous and special as possible for all of our residents.”

Ms Mattaris is among dozens of SwanCare staff working on Christmas day – including more than 30 hospitality staff – all of whom will be focused on ensuring that residents enjoy a traditional Christmas lunch and some festive cheer.

SwanCare chief executive, Graham Francis, said that in many ways those staff members who had put their hand up to work on Christmas day were unsung heroes.

“It takes a special person to sacrifice Christmas Day with their own family to make sure it’s a wonderful day for seniors in our community, and we are incredibly fortunate to have so many committed and dedicated staff,” he said.

“We appreciate them very much, and not just at Christmas but all year round.”
