Opinion: City investigates all dog attack complaints

Paul Ng, Mayor, City of CanningCanning Gazette

IN response to the letter to the editor published last week entitled Poor Attitude, I wish to acknowledge the writer’s concerns and to emphasise the City of Canning’s commitment to ensuring all residents feel safe.

It is disappointing that the customer experience did not meet community expectations. We have reviewed and changed our processes in response to this situation to improve our services.

The City’s Ranger and Community Safety Services team investigate all reported dog matters, particularly those relating to aggressive dogs or attacks. It is an offence to allow a dog to attack or chase a person or animal, irrespective of whether injury is caused. Penalties of up to $10,000 apply.

I urge community members to report all dog attacks or situations where dogs display aggressive behaviour (including rushing at or bailing up people or dogs) to the City on 1300 422 664 (all hours).
