Opinion: Roe 8 will destroy nature forever

Janette Bedwell, Bibra LakeCanning Gazette

I KNOW much has been written about the controversial Roe 8 but I want to add another point of view.

I am just a suburban resident and like many of Perth’s residents I get up and go to work every day – your average citizen.

I want others to be aware of what is at stake with Roe 8.

It isn’t just about “not in my backyard”, it’s about saving valuable intangible elements within our State for future generations.

It might seem to some that the protesters are just rabble rousing or rent a crowd but many of us are just ordinary West Australians who would love to be able to go about our everyday living without protesting the building of a road that will not serve any great function.

All the information we have says that this road is a waste of natural resources, let alone money. The road will be surplus to requirements in 10 years time when Fremantle Harbour has reached maximum capacity.

In the meantime we are destroying nature’s infrastructure that can’t be replaced as easily as it is being ripped out.
