Public transport here good

John Williamson, ClarksonCanning Gazette

While living in the north I had to come to Perth regularly. In doing so I found the cost of taxis to and from the airport to be prohibitive, so looked for a viable alternative.

That came in the form of a number 37 Transperth bus. That service starts at West Perth, runs up St Georges Terrace, past Belmont shopping centre and terminates at the domestic airport in front of the Qantas terminal. That is around 15 metres from the front door.

Also there is a shuttle bus to take you from there to the international terminal should you wish to do so.

I have heard much talk about how bad the public transport services are in Perth and feel that I cannot let this go unchallenged. Owing to health issues I have had to stop driving and now rely on public transport to get around.

Yes, I have had the occasional slight delay with some services but on the whole I am impressed with our public transport system. Compared with other cities, it is my belief that we are far in front.

One example of this was on a trip to Queensland where I had to get a train from the airport to a town just north of Brisbane, a distance akin from Perth to Clarkson.

That journey cost just over $76 one way and that service ran more than an hour late.

I would recommend that people do themselves a favour and use the Transperth journey planner. It would save them a real lot of hassle.
