THE Perry Lakes Hawks (45) were defeated by the Willetton Tigers (49) in the Boys Shield Gold Medal.
The Willetton boys took out the U14 club championships – a national competition – in an all-WA gold medal match.
The Hawks opted for riskier long shots in this match, while the Tigers tried to get as close to the hoop as possible to score, but both teams’ strategies negated each other, with a close battle right until the final siren.
Perry Lakes looked in control late in the second, but Willetton’s persistent efforts in the paint eventually prevailed as they claimed the shield gold medal in a classic.
WILLETTON’S first-grade cricket team was defeated by Claremont-Nedlands in a disappointing first round on Saturday at Burrendah Reserve.
Claremont-Nedlands batted first, rallying an impressive 192 runs on 50 overs with 7 wickets.
Willetton followed, all out for 73.
THE WA Thundersticks and Diamonds ensured they finished their 2017 Australian Hockey League (AHL) campaigns on a positive note after securing wins in their final fixtures on Saturday.
The Thundersticks defeated Tasmania 2-1 before the WA Diamonds thrashed South Australia 4-1.
The results mean both sides finished in fifth place, after failing to reach the semi-finals.
Victoria won both the men’s and women’s competitions on Sunday.
