Cannington Greyhounds: flyer ready for take-off in Summer Chase

Pia van StraalenCanning Gazette

One week after finishing third in WA’s biggest distance race, the Group 1 Galaxy, the Steve Withers-prepared chaser continued her good run of recent form with a come-from-behind victory.

Woodvale Flyer overhauled the leading Courageous Nikki in the home straight to score by a length in 35.06.

The nicely bred Collison-Hot Irish racebitch has now saluted in three of her past seven starts and hasn’t finished outside of the top three during that period.

The Paul Stuart-trained Velucci also clocked 35.06 to win her heat.

A poor start saw Velucci land at the rear of the field in the early stages but she pushed forward along the rail and powered home strongly to win comfortably by two and half lengths.

Former Victorian chaser Iona Carlson took out the other heat for trainer Michael Johnston in 35.15.
