Football: Canning Vale Cougars Year 8 boys have high team spirit

Emma GearyCanning Gazette

TEAM spirit, passion and brotherhood are the traits that have seen the Canning Vale Cougars Year 8 boys team nominated in this year’s Local Sport Stars Young Sporting Spirit-Team category.

Canning Vale resident Kerry Glenister, and mother of Ashton Glenister who is a team member, said the bond between the players was “next to none”.

“Our team is full of passion – passion to push each other in a positive way – and also looking out for one another on and off the field,” she said.

“They call each other their brothers which is amazing to see.”

She said the boys had played in the same team for seven years.

“Our boys, no matter how they play or how the other team play, win or lose they will always be standing in the middle of the ground at the end shaking hands.”

She said parent support was good, with games having a healthy turn-out of family spectators.

The team trains twice a week at their home ground of Clifton Oval in Canning Vale, with games held on Saturday.

So far this season the team is undefeated, with two games remaining before finals.

Mrs Glenister said the team was planning a trip to Melbourne for activities including attending AFL games, visiting the National Sports Museum and meeting and being mentored by AFL players.

The team has raised $7000 of the $50,000 needed for the trip. For more about the team and fundraising activities, visit the Canning Vale Cougars Melbourne 2018 fundraiser Facebook page.
