Ms Holtam said research showed that training in a group increases motivation levels and enhances the results.

The club is open to anyone aged 18 or older who can swim a few laps.

‘Swimming is great exercise,’ Ms Holtam said.

‘It is low impact but can have big results, with both mental and physical benefits.

‘I encourage anyone who can swim a few laps, no matter what age, size or fitness level, to visit their local masters club to see what being a member involves.’
