Armadale gets $1 million boost to heated indoor pool project

Sophie MooreComment News

The $26 million aquatic centre is due to be completed by the end of 2018, with building slated to begin later this year.

A grant for $366,666 was also awarded for floodlighting at Gwynne Park, John Dunn Memorial Park and William Skeet Oval. This will allow for night matches and games and better security at the grounds.

The Aquatic Centre project had been on the City’s Long Term Financial Plan for many years, with more than $4.5 million in preparatory work already completed.

Armadale is one of the last metropolitan areas without a heated indoor pool facility. The City was given $10 million for the project by the Federal Government last September.

Residents have petitioned for the pool to be redeveloped for about a decade, with the council bringing forward the design start date of the project two years from 2018-2019. A final design plan for the aquatic centre is due to be released this week.
