ARKS Rugby Union Club made it back-to-back Championship wins with a 27-12 win over Perth Irish at Harrisdale Field.

A commanding 15-point lead at the break set up an impressive win for ARKS, who kept its finals hopes alive by claiming a bonus point.

Starting with the wind behind it, ARKS piled on four first-half tries to put the game almost beyond doubt at the main break.

Cody Chapman-Manuel, Tamaraura Cassidy, Tyson Lewis and Willtz Wade all crossed the try-line in the first half, although an inability to make the conversions gave the Irish a glimmer of hope.

However, a skillful second-half performance and another try to William Jobe secured the win and the bonus point.

Meanwhile, ARKS’ B Grade side fell agonisingly short of victory, going down 19-18 to Perth Irish.

Josh Upson grabbed an early try before being taken to hospital with a serious knee injury and the hosts ended the half on the back foot as an errant pass and late try allowed Perth back into the game.

The second half proved to be a struggle for ARKS as it battled against the wind and although it went ahead through a Tapukura Kitione try, Perth responded with a late try of its own to win the game.

ARKS’ under-20s went down 51-12 to Associates Rugby Club.

Next week ARKS’ A Grade are away to Swan Suburbs, with B Grade away in Bunbury and the under-20s have a bye.
