NBL1 West women: Mandurah Magic overtime loss hands East Perth Eagles first win of 2024

Matt ZisMandurah Times

When it mattered most, the Mandurah Magic just couldn’t go with East Perth Eagles and their tallest player Mary Baskerville.

The two sides couldn’t be separated at fulltime after Mandurah star Casey Mihovilovich had banked the game-tying three-pointer with just 18 seconds to go.

But the Magic hardly fired a shot in the overtime period and eventually lost by 15 points, 82-67.

The win on their home court was East Perth’s first of the season and the defeat consigned Mandurah to a 2-6 record as they prepare for a road trip to Kalgoorlie this weekend.

Exploding for her biggest game of the season, Baskerville had the first six points of the extra stanza, using her height to demand the ball close to the basket.

The American import finished with 34 points at 87 per cent along with 20 rebounds.

Mihovilovich hit six threes in her 27-point outing but was Mandurah’s only double-digit scorer on the night.

Her side managed just three points in the five-minute overtime period.

Baskerville had an offensive ally in Mary Goulding, who had 19 points and eight rebounds.

For the Magic, Emma Klasztorny and Rachel Halleen both had nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.
