TWO of Australia’s best known and awarded chefs are joining Xanadu, Margaret River’s most successful wine show winner with 53 major wine show trophies since 2007, for a Bistro Guillaume Crown Perth and James Halliday Wine Companion Dinner.
Mark Best, founder and formerly of Marque in Sydney and Pei Modern in both Sydney and Melbourne, and Guillaume Brahimi of the Crown Group have created a four-course dinner menu for the Xanadu current and museum gold and trophy winners on Thursday, May 4, at 6.30pm.
Xanadu has crafted an extraordinary proportion of Australia’s finest wines since 2007 and this will be many a Perth winelover’s first chance to taste many of them.

Hear and question Xanadu’s full-time surfing and part-time winemaking superstar Glen Goodall on all things Xanadu, Margaret River and the wine show system, while tasting some of Australia’s major trophy and gold medal winning wines from the past nine years.
Goodall and many of the Xanadu team are avid surfers and at the end of vintage each year he, winemaker Brendan Carr and the team can’t wait for the Winery Cup: the Margaret River’s annual inter-winery end-of-vintage surf competition. Xanadu never wins, but staff have a great time.
Awards Xanadu has recently won include the following: The past four consecutive Champion Cabernet Sauvignon Trophies at Canberra, our senior and national wine show, in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
It also won the International Chardonnay Challenge Best Chardonnay Trophy 2010, the Five Nation’s Best Chardonnay Trophy and Best White Wine of Show 2012 and was runner-up to Best Chardonnay of Show (equal second points) at the James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge 2013 – Australia’s largest chardonnay tasting.
Also on the list is the James Halliday’s Cabernet Sauvignon and The Wine of the Year 2015 with the Stevens Road cabernet sauvignon 2011; just the second new-release table wine ever to receive 99 points from James Halliday.
There were 17 capital city gold medals in 2016, 10 gold medals at the Margaret River Wine Show in 2016 with the Best Dry Red Trophy Canberra 2007 cabernet sauvignon.
And what about the dinner wines?
The 2015 Xanadu Reserve chardonnay – have a pre-release tasting of Xanadu’s finest chardonnay of the vintage. The 2012 Xanadu Reserve chardonnay won eight gold medals and six silver medals
The 2014 Xanadu Reserve cabernet sauvignon – have a pre-release tasting of Xanadu’s outstanding and most expensive cabernet from Xanadu and Margaret River’s greatest cabernet vintage ever. The 2009 Xanadu Reserve cabernet sauvignon took home two gold medals and one silver medal.
The 2008 Xanadu cabernet sauvignon won the trophy for Best Cabernet Sauvignon in 2011 and the trophy for Best Mature Dry Red 2013 at Canberra’s National Wine Show, plus four gold, five silver and 10 bronze medals.
