AUSTRALIAN racing legend Mark Webber has announced he will retire from active racing at the end of the year.
The six-hour race in Bahrain on November 19 will be the last time the reigning World Champion sports car driver competes as a Porsche works driver.
After that, the nine times Formula One Grand Prix winner will represent Porsche at global events and as a consultant to the motorsport programs of the Stuttgart manufacturer.
The Porsche Team now ranks first in the manufacturers’ world championship. Porsche leads with 238 points ahead of Audi (185) and Toyota (137). There are still three races remaining.
“I have arrived where I belong,” Webber (40) said.
“Porsche is the brand I always loved most and the one that suits me the best.”
