The former Artistic Director of The West Australian Ballet Ivan Cavallari made the comments on the opening of Onegin at His Majesties Theatre on Friday, September, 20. Mr Cavallari, now the director of Ballet du Rhin in France, called for State and private investment into a new lyrical theatre for Perth saying WA’s politicians and businesses must look to the future. ‘You can build a theatre through private funding’ne, Sydney, Brisbane, Paris or London we need a theatre that’s comparable in both technical capacity and good sightlines.’ Mr Roth stressed that the quality of WA Ballet is there but said the major factor holding ballet back in Perth is the poor infrastructure. ‘The quality is wonderful in Perth but the infrastructure that houses the art is not up to 21st century standards, that’s for sure,” he said.
