Kristie LimEastern Reporter

A GROUP of creative entrepreneurs are teaming up to bring the community together in a bid to revamp their studio in Bassendean.

General Assembly Studios is home to Model Camp Australia and is used for photo shoots, modelling classes, disadvantaged youth programs, make-up and hair sessions, small events and fitness classes.

The group has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help raise funds for the revamp and has raised more than $1000 since September.

Model Camp Australia founder Yasmin Walter said it had been three years since the last renovations.

“We took over the lease of this area and because it is essentially not ours to own, we already put a lot of money into it so we could not do any more,” she said.

“We have been renting the top room only and we just use the downstairs space for photo shoots but it was literally covered in carpet and it was not appealing at all.

“We are just hoping for people to come on board just to take advantage of the special deals we have on because there are quite a lot of savings.”

Ms Walter said the team worked well together to create innovative ideas to reach their goal of $10,000.

“Everyone can get to the top quicker if you also support each other…when we have brainstorms, it is electrifying and everyone’s input just bounces off each other,” she said.

She said plans for two multipurpose creative spaces, a make up room, change room, common hangout room, bathroom and kitchenette would be finished by January .
