Noise wall will replace sand bund in Ballajura: Saffioti

MLA Rita Saffioti says the sand bund behind her will be replaced with a noise wall if Labor is elected.

A SAND bund along Hepburn Avenue in Ballajura will be removed and a $5 million noise wall will be built in its place, if WA Labor is elected next month.

West Swan MLA Rita Saffioti said the 4.5km wall would be built with Northlink funding, to replace the City of Swan-constructed sand bund.

“The current sand bund is not fit for purpose and is creating a number of issues for residents,” she said.

She said the sand bund has eroded over time with some residents able to view traffic from their backyards and it has also created crime issues.

Ms Saffioti said a survey distributed last year showed 90 per cent of residents were in favour of the wall.

She said she would consult on the issue with City of Swan Council and the community.

However, Liberal candidate for West Swan Rod Henderson said no costings had been provided for Labor’s transport commitments.

“(Rita Saffioti’s) thought bubble lacks funding for a noise wall,” he said.

“The current sand bund is an important first step in ensuring that noise pollution doesn’t detract from local living standards.”

Mr Henderson said if elected he would pass on the concerns of  residents and will fight hard to secure the best outcome for them.
