Opinion: Ashfied community ignored in Barnett’s plans to build new stadium

Carol Seidel, BassendeanEastern Reporter

I AM horrified that the community in Ashfield is being totally ignored by the (Colin) Barnett announcement to build a 4000-seat stadium and administration centre at Ashfield Reserve.

One has to ask: is this a thought bubble from Mr Barnett without any notification to the local residents and the Town of Bassendean that this development will be going ahead?

The impact the stadium will have on the local residents need to be seriously assessed, such as parking, noise and bright lighting issues.

Let’s face it, Burswood is the better option.

There would be very little or no impact on residents at Burswood where there is infrastructure, such as a new train station and car parking, and it would enhance other sporting events in the area.

Serious community consultation needs to take place before any preliminary plans are drawn up.

We are sick and tired of this Government and their departments plonking bad planning infrastructure ideas on our community.

CAROL SEIDEL,
