WORLD number two freestyle scooter rider Ben Thomas won a golden ticket to the International Scooter Association (ISA) World Final at qualifying event in Bayswater.

The 21-year-old High Wycombe resident finished first ahead of Jared Colwell and Jae Yates in the 2017 ISA Championships at Bayswater Skatepark held on February 11.

Thomas, a Grit team member, said he was “relieved” to have qualified for the ISA World Final in Barcelona.

“One of the other riders Jared (Colwell) and all the riders rode very well so we knew it was going to be really close for those positions for the podium,” he said.

“It was kind of a big relief because now I am straight into the World Championships so there is no pressure for the Australian Championships.”

Thomas said he trained every second day of the week in preparation for the two upcoming major events.

“I am always looking forward to competition…when I don’t really need to compete, I probably still will,” he said.

“I definitely want to still train and maybe try some new tricks and get some new stuff down, so when it comes to that time (of competition), I am prepared.”

Thomas said his goal was to claim the world number one ranking, which was held by his teammate Jordan Clark.

“I guess I have been competing in all of the World Championships since it began about six years now,” he said.

“I definitely want to take out that top spot; that would be amazing.”
