MALAGA-based junior boxer Tara Moss has dreams of winning a gold medal at the Olympic Games despite only starting the sport 18 months ago.

The Aveley resident (12) won her first amateur fight last month and is training towards the Boxing WA State Championships in October where she will fight in the novice division.

Tara said she enjoyed sparring with older boxers and other kids.

“Fighting is fun and not many girls do it,” she said.

She trains three times a week in preparation for the upcoming championships, and coach Troy Sabetta said Tara had natural talent.

“Tara comes to train but she is also confronted with the hard sessions that is a challenge to anybody,” she said.

“Not only do we train and pay attention to developing technique, there is also growth there as a person and having an application towards what she needs to get motivated because it is hard work.

“We find ways to enjoy training and keep the motivation there.”

Sabetta said Tara would get the opportunity to fight in state titles and represent WA in the nationals in the future.
