WAFL: Swan Districts sign former Carlton and Richmond player Chris Yarran

Kristie LimEastern Reporter

FORMER AFL star Chris Yarran has signed with his junior club Swan Districts Football Club just a week before the 2017 WAFL season starts on March 18.

Yarran (26) played 119 games for Carlton, where he won the AFL Goal of the Year in 2012 before being traded to Richmond in 2015 in exchange for a first-round AFL draft pick.

The half-back did not register a game for the Tigers in two seasons and he was released from his contract in November due to ongoing mental health issues.

A Swan Districts spokesman said Yarran had trained with the club during the pre-season on three occasions before committing to the club yesterday.

“Chris Yarran is our most recent signing and he is another marquee player who has signed with Swan Districts,” he said.

“He will be featuring in tonight’s player auction and season launch event as part of the team.

“Whether or not he will play in round 1 is yet to be determined.”

Swan Districts will be hosting its player auction tonight in the Swan Valley.
