East Fremantle woman prepares to walk for cancer to honour fiance’s grandmother

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

EAST Fremantle’s Tameeka Allen is preparing to take on one of the biggest walks of her life.

Wanting to do something to honour the memory of her fiance’s grandmother, who passed away from cancer in 2012, Ms Allen will be one of many tackling the 42km Walk for Women’s Cancer.

She said she was nervous but positive about completing the marathon distance.

“I want to raise awareness of the tough cancers women face, do my family proud by completing the marathon and hopefully honour the memory of my fiance’s nan,” she said.

“Cancer has touched so many amazing women I know, so the walk is something I have 100 per cent committed to and raising as much funds as possible for; it’s the least I can do.

“Anyone who loves walking or running, I would encourage them to participate or if not, to donate. The more people that know about the Hawaiian Walk for Women’s Cancer, the greater the impact.”

The Walk for Women’s Cancer is on May 6.
