THE team keeping Australia Day fireworks in Fremantle alive has unveiled an exciting program of events to be staged over four days.

The Freo Fiesta will be held at locations across the port city between January 26 and 29 and feature mini-golf and big board games, water slides, performers, a fun fair and live music, among a stack of other family friendly entertainment.

Fireworks over Fishing Boat Harbour will be held on the evening of Australia Day.

The City of Fremantle had scrapped its traditional celebrations, including fireworks, in favour of a more “culturally inclusive alternative” on January 28.

That prompted not-for-profit organisation Fremantle Business Improvement District (BID) and the Fishing Boat Harbour Traders Group to come together to keep the tradition alive.

Fremantle BID chair Karl Bullers said the Freo Fiesta was about bringing life to Fremantle.

“This is simply our way of providing something for people to enjoy in anticipation of the fireworks and keeping that momentum going into the weekend, which will have a flow-on effect for businesses,” he said.

“It gives Fremantle, and especially the surrounding Fishing Boat Harbour area, a real vibrancy and energy.”

The event will coincide with the City of Fremantle’s One Day in Fremantle event and Freo Royale.
