Concert one to treasure

On the wet Sunday of the long weekend, after the disappointing defeat of the Fremantle football team, we took some visitors to see Fremantle.

While we were walking the main strip, we noticed that something was on at the Town Hall. Our inquiries found it was the Australasian handbell-ringers convention and they were giving a concert that afternoon.

What a concert it was, with over 90 bell-ringers, conductors with global awards and recognition, and close to half a million dollars worth of handbells and chimes being used.

It was two hours of euphoric sounds that will be a once-in-a-lifetime fantastic experience that will last for ever.

The music played covered well-known classical to modern tunes such as The Rose and Coldplay’s Clocks. These conferences are apparently only held once every two years and are predominately held on the east coast.

The audience was told it may be another 20 years before the event is again held in WA.

That makes our chance attendance an even more valuable memory.

Fremantle may have lost the football, but the City of Fremantle must be thanked for they certainly had a win hosting the Australasian handbell-ringers conference
