Fremantle councillors need to focus on fixing crime

Bob Loftus, FremantleFremantle Gazette

WHEN are Fremantle’s councillors going to come out from behind their big desks in their comfortable council offices and do something about the increasing violence and anti-social behaviour on the streets of Fremantle?

Last week, in the car park of Coles supermarket, we witnessed a fight between two Aboriginal women, the combatants being urged on by a vocal group of other Aboriginal women.

Two shocked Irish tourists came up to us, saying “This is a fine advert for Fremantle”.

Ringing the police is a waste of time as, due to our penny-pinching politicians, it is no longer possible to get through to our local police station.

This an ongoing, serious problem that needs a serious solution now.

Perhaps by spending less on a new or upgraded town hall, the money saved could be better spent putting police on the street.
