Opinion: Fremantle City Council splitting us apart

Charlie Gibson, FalconFremantle Gazette

WELL, it’s on again thanks to the people on the Fremantle City Council who want to celebrate Australia Day on the 28th of January and not the 26th.

What’s wrong with these people? We spend so much time and effort on trying to bring us all together as a one people. Their dumb decisions do the complete opposite and attempt to split us apart.

I have many Aboriginal friends and shared some wonderful times together. I have told my Italian mates we could be cousins, as the Romans invaded England and, if I am correct, tried to invade Scotland for about 40 years.

In other words, nearly every country has had invasions over history, so the best thing we can do is have a few drinks on Australia Day.

Yes, mistakes were made but let’s get on with living.

Oh well, a Merry Xmas to everyone and a safe new year.
