THE speculation is over, with Fremantle captain and 2015 Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe putting pen to paper on a new six-year deal that will see him stay a Docker for life.

The 25-year-old is committed through until the end of 2023 in what has been labelled the longest contract extension in the club’s history.

Fyfe said he was grateful for the opportunity to be a one-club player.

“Freo has been my home since the start of my career and I’ve since grown into a leadership role,” he said.

“I really love playing for the club and I’m really grateful and humbled to have the opportunity to be here for the next six years.

“As an AFL football player, there’s no better place to be playing than in WA at the new Perth Stadium and especially so with the Fremantle Dockers.”

Fyfe said his biggest goal was still to help Fremantle to its first premiership and believed the club’s young players had the capability to improve into an elite side in the coming years.

“I think we’ve got a group who are really willing to learn and aren’t interested in waiting around for their careers to follow a natural trajectory,” he said.

“Clearly we want to deliver Fremantle their first premiership. It’s a really lofty and ambitious goal and we’re all going to work as hard as we can towards that.”

Fremantle list management general manager Brad Lloyd said Fyfe’s re-signing was a critical part of the club moving forward.

“We’re absolutely thrilled as a football club to get this long term commitment from Nat,” he said.

“We feel that we have a really young exciting group coming through, who have come on throughout the 2017 season in particular.

“As captain, Nat is a key leader for those young players and the rest of the playing group, so it’s a really pivotal step for where we’re taking the club.”
