Roll out of new business

Anne Gartner, Guardian ExpressEastern Reporter

Brother and sister team Owen Williams (West Leederville) and Belinda Hill (Sorrento) launched their tour business last week based outside the Swan Bell Tower.

It is the first business in WA to offer tours on Segways, two wheel electric vehicles, offering routes along the riverfront.

Mr Williams said he first saw the potential for Perth Segway tours after trying one out in 2004 in Washington DC.

He then started distributing Segways to private investors, but had to wait until this year to start the tour company when the State Government changed legislation to allow the vehicles on public land.

The first three routes are along the northern foreshore, but Mr Williams and Ms Hill have bigger plans.

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the tours were a good tourism initiative.
