MOP Donuts opening in CBD, the world to follow

Greig JohnstonEastern Reporter

NEW kid on the block MOP (made on premise) Donuts is opening its new CBD store at 140 William Street later this month.

The opening marks the start of big expansion plans for the company.

The brain child of Giovanni Pezzano, the man behind The Meatball Bar and Gourmet Republik, MOP has taken Leederville by storm since opening its first store in November last year.

Customers have been smitten by the range of alcoholic (yes, alcoholic), sweet and savoury donuts on offer.

“MOP’s obviously launched probably bigger than we expected in terms of the demand,” MOP’s national general manager Steve Hollow said.

“We sell out every single day.

“We’ve now set up a 1500 square metre commercial kitchen in Malaga which is big enough to do the whole state.”

The savoury options have been a smash hit with consumers.

“Probably more than a third of our sales are hot food,” he said.

“Even on Uber Eats, the demand for the breakfast, the lunch and the burgers is huge.”

The store at 140 will be smaller in scale than the Leederville outlet.

“We won’t be doing our burgers there, we’ll be doing our full doughnut range and our lunch range of paninis and maybe a little breakfast offering as well.”

And 140 certainly won’t be the last expansion.

“We’re opening a shop in Fremantle and we’ve committed to a couple of shopping centres already,” Mr Hollow said.

“Fremantle should open two or three weeks after the city.

“Our aim within 12 months is to be in every state in Australia.”

The opening of the new 140 store is slated for Tuesday May 23.
