Mandurah man (18) charged with alleged Wellington St robbery

Jon BassettEastern Reporter

A MANDURAH man (18) was allegedly armed with a corkscrew when he took a mobile phone from a woman at Wellington Street late on September 16.

“She followed, begging for the accused to give her phone back to her repeatedly, but it will be alleged he stopped, turned and said ‘If you follow me, I’ll stab you’,” Senior Sergeant Craig Davis said.

The woman allegedly saw the man had an 8cm object as she continued shouting at him up a Wellington Street lane, where other members of the public joined in her protests.

It will be alleged that when police arrived a short time later the mobile phone and a light blue cork screw-bottle opener utensil about 10cm long were both in the man’s waistband.

He was charged with robbery while armed, refused bail and remanded to appear at Perth Magistrates Court on October 18.
