Murray Street Mall evacuated as police investigate ‘suspicious package’

UPDATE: Murray Street Mall and the Piccadilly Arcade have reportedly re-opened after being evacuated earlier this afternoon.

Police have declined to comment on the nature of the reported suspicious package that shut down the shopping precinct.

A police spokesman told Community News police had cordoned off an area near Piccadilly Arcade as they worked to ascertain the nature of the package.

Police had used tape to cordon off an area in the mall.
