Vincent mayoral race down to two candidates

Julian WrightEastern Reporter

A LAST-minute candidate nomination means it will be a two-person race for the role of City of Vincent mayor.

Current councillor Emma Cole and East Perth resident Malcolm Boyd will vie for the position in the February 24 extraordinary election.

Outgoing mayor John Carey will step down at the end of the month to campaign for the Perth seat in March’s State Election.

Mr Boyd has a background in engineering and supports free enterprise.

He is concerned with budget deficits disguised by selling assets, high business rate rises and inner city broadband black spots.

Cr Cole was elected to council in October 2013 and is a part-time public servant with a background in government policy.

She is the Chair of the Children and Young People Advisory Group, Deputy Chair of the Audit Committee, member of the Environmental Advisory Group and alternative member of the Development Assessment Panel.

There are six nominations for the South Ward position: Malcolm Boyd, Dave Evans, Amy Fels, Jonathan Hallett, Frances Harrison and Mai Nguyen.
