Giovanni TorreEastern Reporter

PERTH SOCCER CLUB remains within striking distance of the top of the National Premier Leagues WA after a thumping 5-0 win over Sorrento on the weekend.

Gustavo Catarcione’s hat-trick led the way.

The Brazilian landed two first half goals and a Sorrento own goal made it 3-0 at half time.

Frank Furfaro put it beyond doubt early in the second half before Catarcione completed his hat-trick at the 74 minute mark from the edge of the penalty area.

The win puts the Azzurri just a point behind second-placed Floreat Athena.

Coach Ramon Falzon said the performance reached the benchmark the team had set for itself.

He praised Catarcione for his performance and his leadership with the young Perth group.

Perth have 12 wins, 6 losses and 2 draws this season.

It was a good weekend all round for Perth SC, as several memorabilia items were donated to the club by long-term member and former Azzurri juniors president Saverio Ali.

Mr Ali donated an original Azzurri blazer and tie, bag, and two match-day soccer balls which were used by the club in the 1960s.

Club President Gary Marocchi thanked Mr Ali for the items, which will go on display in the Azzurri museum inside the clubrooms.
