Big day on track

The Midland Workshops are part of WA’s social and industrial history.
The Midland Workshops are part of WA’s social and industrial history.

The most intact example of an early 20th century railway workshop anywhere in Australia, the workshops constructed and maintained steam locomotives, carriages, wagons, tracks, signals and station equipment until 1994.

The free open day provides a chance for visitors to go back in time and share some of the social and industrial history of WA.

Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority chief executive Kieran Kinsella said the workshops played a crucial role in Midland’s history.

‘We intend to celebrate that with guided tours revealing the rich history of the workshops, live music, historical and vintage photograph displays, and documentaries,’ he said.

There will also be a host of other events for children.

You can even buy some of the workshop’s heritage items in a special auction on the day.
