High Wycombe: City of Kalamunda calls for funding to upgrade Abernethy Rd

Lynn GriersonHills Avon Valley Gazette

THE City of Kalamunda is calling on the State and Federal governments to provide financial support for a much-needed upgrade to Abernethy Road in High Wycombe from a single lane to a dual carriageway, with an extension to the railway tunnel.

Mayor Andrew Waddell said there was an urgent need to upgrade the road to dual carriage between Avonside Crescent and Adelaide Street.

“This stretch of road is a key freight route and experiences congestion during peak periods due to the volume of vehicles servicing the surrounding industrial areas,” he said.

“The projected population increases and heavy vehicle usage present serious economic, community and safety issues to our community, with the current daily vehicle usage of 15,000 projected to rise to 28,000 vehicles per day by 2031.”
