Midland employment agency finding inclusive work with ‘fresh food people’ for those with disabilities

PEOPLE with disabilities are finding work with a little help from a disability employment service and ‘the fresh food people’ at Midland Centrepoint.

Gidgegannup’s Jorden Allen-Barr (20) and Amanda Butler (43) of Jane Brook have not looked back since they found jobs at the Woolworths branch.

Essential Personnel Midland employment co-ordinator Ashley Brittain said a diverse workforce reflected the broader community and promoted social inclusion.

“We work with clients to find the best job match; this is a win, win for the client and the employer to ensure the longevity of the position,” she said.

“Amanda is working eight hours a week as a bakery assistant and Jorden works 15 hours in the long life department.”

Jorden said he felt good about being able to support himself while studying for a diploma in graphic design.

“It’s great having the opportunity to work at Woolworths, I feel so supported and it’s a great friendly environment to work in,” he said.

Amanda said she loved her new job.

“I work with such a friendly team and I can save for a holiday now,” she said.

The Midland Centrepoint Woolworths provides work experience to people with disabilities and also runs an employment program for indigenous people.

Manager Vernon Adams said the business focused on diversity in employment to reflect the community it served.
