Shire of Northam criticises vandals who targeted Chinganning Rd

Chief executive Jason Whiteaker said they had recently finished removing trees along the Woottating road for gravel resheeting and reinstating clearance envelopes.

He said it was disappointing that someone had spray painted trees and placed “inappropriate signage” to cover the Shire’s own signs over the weekend.

“While we absolutely accept the right for people to express their views or concerns, we would ask that people channel their views in the appropriate way,” he said.

One reader, who did not wish to be named, told the Hills Gazette it was upsetting to see so many well-established trees cut down.

Mr Whiteaker said approvals to reinstate the original road clearance envelope had not been required. He said the works were not to widen the road.
