Signs for drivers to slow down on Thomas Road in Glen Forrest

Lynn GriersonHills Avon Valley Gazette

DRIVERS will be reminded to slow down in Glen Forrest on a road residents say speeders use to avoid the Great Eastern Highway.

Mundaring Shire is trialling speed display signs in Thomas Road throughout August.

The signs on loan from WALGA’s RoadWise are likely to be used in the Shire as an ongoing safety tool to encourage drivers to slow down on roads where speeding is of concern to residents.

Shire President David Lavell said speed awareness was critical to reducing the number of crashes across the Shire.

He said the signs supported other recent safety improvements to seal the gravel shoulders and install a footpath in Thomas Road.

The introduction of speed signs comes after a Glen Forrest resident contacted the Gazette in June to raise awareness of the frequency of accidents in the road.

A Main Roads spokeswoman said five crashes were reported on Thomas Road to the end of December 2016.
