A DEDICATION service was held at the York Memorial Park earlier this month to mark the completion of works under the Anzac Centenary Local Grant.

Pearce MHR Christian Porter attended the July 8 dedication of a sculpted bronze bas relief honouring York-born WWI Victoria Cross winner Lawrence Dominic McCarthy.

It also included a plaque commemorating his actions and the part all York servicemen played in WWI.

A bronze plaque marking a newly installed historic WWI armament, a 77mm Krupp Gun, was also unveiled.

It now has a shelter for long-term display at the War Memorial Park.

Lettering on the Memorial was repainted and a small granite plinth added with additional names.

Eight plinths were also unveiled at the entrance of the RSL Remembrance Garden where a rose bush was planted.
