Hillarys: Whitford City shops wins health and safety award

WESTFIELD Whitford City shopping centre has been recognised for its safety and health practices.

The Hillarys centre has received a Gold WorkSafe Plan Certificate of Achievement award for “best occupational safety and health management system”.

“The WorkSafe plan had five elements and each has a standard that describes the performance expected for that element,” Scentre Group risk management co-ordinator Rob Stansfield said.

“These include management commitment, planning, consultation and reporting, hazard management and training and supervision.

“An independent Worksafe assessor does an audit based on the criteria by reviewing documentation and interviewing personnel including contractors, safety committee members and visitors on site to ensure that what we have on our plan is what we have on site.”

“To achieve gold, we had to have an average of 75 per cent, which we excelled at 86 per cent, just 4 per cent below the platinum level.”
