ANYTIME Fitness in Currambine is calling on residents to join in a treadmill challenge this weekend to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention.

Registration fees for the 24 Hour Treadmill Challenge for Suicide Prevention Australia are donated directly to Suicide Prevention Australia.

The Currambine gym will host the event in honour of Paul Strange, a member who committed suicide last year after having suffered from mental illness for many years.

His family will be the first to run in the club’s challenge. Gym owner David Hoang will attempt to run for the entire 24 hours.

“Everyone who knows me thinks I’m crazy, including my wife,” he said.

“But I love to run and this cause is very dear to our hearts so we decided to put this event on to bring the whole community together to raise awareness for suicide prevention,” Mr Hoang said.

“While this is a serious issue the event itself will be very fun.”

Mr Hoang has agreed to wear football jerseys, company shirts, wigs, juggle, moonwalk and more for the right donation.

To donate or to register, call 9304 0303 or email currambine@anytimefitness.com.au.

The club will post updates on its Facebook page which people can join by searching ‘Anytime Fitness Currambine’.

Anytime Fitness Beldon is also holding a 24 hour treadmill run  from 4pm this Friday to 4pm on Saturday to raise funds and awareness for Suicide Prevention Australia.

The gym has already raised more than $1000 of its $1500 target and expects 95 people to run, walk, dance or skip on the treadmill for 15 minutes at a time.
