Greenwood: former students remember a teacher with a heart of gold

FORMER students of Allan Collins have paid emotional tributes after he was killed last week at Greenwood train station.

Mr Collins died when he was struck by a train at the station, after falling onto the tracks while riding his motorised bike.

The 69-year-old was a former teacher at Halidon Primary School in Kingsley and he left a lasting impression.

Dozens of former students took to social media to post there memories of Mr Collins.

Jo Hardcastle remembered an “amazing teacher and an amazing human”.

Jackie Hughes said Mr Collins was “very friendly, always supportive”.

Samuel Asbury recalled the difference Mr Collins made in his life.

“He was one of my favourite teachers and helped me become a much better person than I was on track to being,” Mr Asbury wrote.
