A PADBURY couple in their 70s have stepped forward to claim almost $1 million in Lotto 10 days after the draw.

The winning ticket was purchased at Padbury News & Post and marked the 38th division one win for WA so far this year – for a total of $92 million in prize money.

The couple said the win was a definite highlight in what had been pretty tough road.

“When you’ve battled your whole life you don’t expect something like this to happen,” the husband said.

“Our first purchase will be an around the world plane ticket to cross a few things off our bucket list.”

When asked how they would celebrate, the wife said they had already popped two bottles of $8 champagne.

“Some things will never change – we’ll always be battlers,” the wife said.

“We wouldn’t know the difference between fancy champagne and the $8 bottle anyway.”

The claim by the couple came just ahead another division one winner, with the ticket purchased at Mundijong IGA.

Store owner Nancy Gangemi said she was delighted to have potentially changed the life of one lucky local.

“This is the first division one win for our store,” Ms Gangemi said.
