IT has been a tough year for the Joondalup Giants Rugby League Club juniors, according to vice-president Gregg Pearson.

“We have had no major sponsors on board for the juniors,” he said. “We have fundraised all season.”

This Sunday, they will host the Rockingham Sharks at Admiral Reserve for the second last round of the season.

As part of the game, the club is having a sold-out hangi, a traditional Maori method of cooking food using heated rocks buried in a pit oven.

The Kiwi Shop in Joondalup has also donated a gift pack including a NZ Warriors jersey and mug, Rabbitohs merchandise and chocolates to be raffled.

The club also has a ball signed by this year’s Sydney Roosters team that will be raffled in two weeks.

“Going into 2018, we are seeking sponsors and support from the community to ensure we can keep the juniors going stronger each year,” Mr Pearson said.

“We have already started planning for the 2018 season and are looking forward to the year ahead.”
