SBL: Joondalup Wolves on target for straight sweep to grand final

JOONDALUP will attempt an unblemished run to the State Basketball League grand final in both the men’s and women’s competitions this weekend.

The two sides have not yet lost a finals game, their latest wins coming in game one of their best-of-three semi-final series on Saturday night at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

The Lady Wolfpack has proven a dominant force in the post-season, its three wins coming at an average 22-point margin.

The men have won by a near 20-point average.

The women face Perry Lakes in game two at Bendat Basketball Centre tonight while the men oppose Willetton at Willetton Basketball Stadium.

Should either team lose, they return to Joondalup Basketball Stadium for the decider on Saturday.

The women proved far too strong an opponent for the Hawks in game one pulling away to a 51-14 lead at half time before the visitors saved some face with an 80-50 result at the final buzzer.

Shani Amos continued an outstanding play-off series with a game-high 24 points as well as six assists, five steals and six rebounds.

Ellyce Ironmonger led the board count with 12 rebounds.

In the men’s contest, the Wolves held just a seven-point lead heading into the final term, but saw out the game strongly to win 122-103.

Captain Seb Salinas hit five of eight from the three-point line, but only one of 10 two-point attempts on his way to 19 points and six assists.

Trian Iliadis top scored with 27 points.
