The Centurions have seemingly fallen a long way back from their 2016-17 grand final appearance after losing their opening two games of the season.

Their latest loss came in a two-wicket defeat to Midland-Guildford at Iluka on Saturday. A half-century to opener Jaron Morgan (55) and 45 to Jake Szilinsky were the high points of the hosts’ innings, which ended on 157 in the 35th over.

The visitors surpassed the total in the 41st over.

With Joondalup captain Michael Johnson as wicketkeeper, WA gloveman Josh Inglis became the surprise leading wicket taker, snaring 3-31.

At Kingsway Sporting Complex, Wanneroo fell victim to Willetton by two wickets in an exciting clash that went down to the final over.

Roos captain Christian Smith starred with the bat to score an unbeaten 98 in his side’s 9-184.

The visitors had solid contributions across the board with four players returning 20-plus scores, led by Brennan Wilson’s unbeaten 46.

Wanneroo’s Jack Cattrall, Matthew Dzodzos and Chris Quelch took two wickets each.

T20: Joondalup beaten by Country XI

JOONDALUP suffered a shock loss to the Country XI in its opening Premier T20 clash on Sunday.

The regional side comfortably accounted for its semi-professional opponent by 63 runs, led by opener Tom Buchanan’s impressive 98 from 66 balls at Tompkins Park.

The visitors lost just three wickets to score 173.

Joondalup captain Michael Johnson top scored with 43 in the Centurions’ 110.

It was a far closer affair between Wanneroo and Gosnells, with the Roos clinching a five-run win after the Hawks ran out of overs at Sutherlands Park.

Matt Spoors was Wanneroo’s best batsman with 42 in his side’s 7-139.

The Roos’ Chris Quelch took 2-20 to be best with the ball.

The next round of T20 clashes begins on October 29.
