EAST Metropolitan Region MLC Donna Faragher this week visited the Bicycles for Humanity workshop in Middle Swan to find out more about the valuable work the organisation does.
“It was great to visit this fantastic volunteer-run organisation which has restored and delivered more than 4000 bikes to small communities in Namibia and South Africa,” she said.
“These communities further benefit with each shipping container that the bikes arrive in ultimately becoming a bike workshop providing employment, skills training and small business opportunities.”

READ NOWBicycles for Humanity has a permanent workshop behind Jack Williamson Oval in Middle Swan where volunteers repair and restore donated bicycles for community development projects in Perth, regional WA and Africa.
Bicycles for Humanity chairman David Tucker said the public could support the cause in many ways.
“Firstly, people can donate their second-hand bikes, preferably adult-sized sturdy hybrids or mountain bikes and BMX-sized bikes,” he said.
“These can be dropped at a variety of locations across the metropolitan area.
“People can also volunteer their time in the workshop and finally through monetary donations, as each shipment to Africa costs approximately $10,000.”
Volunteers are welcome in the workshop on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9am-1pm and every second Sunday of the Month from 9am-1pm.
