Former coach Bernd Stange returns to Perth to recall Glory days

The Coach Who Knew Too Much addresses the globetrotting escapades of Stange in coaching soccer clubs in countries across Europe and Asia.

Stange coached Glory from 1998 to 2001, having previously coached in Kiev and East Germany for its national team.

His time at Glory earned him much love in WA for his role in increasing the quality of the club’s performance, fan support and attendance at matches.

In 1998 Stange took Glory to its first National Soccer League finals match since the club’s founding in 1995.

Glory made it to the grand final in the following year and competed in one of the fiercest NSL final matches on record, losing to the Wollongong Wolves after holding a 3-0 lead at half-time.

Stange also received the FIFA Presidential Award in 2003 for his role in resurrecting the Iraqi national soccer team from 2001-2003.

He was a guest speaker at the WA Football Hall of Fame dinner.
