Eighties rock sensation 1927 has been revealed as the headline act for the City of South Perth’s 2024 free summer concert, Sounds in the Park.

Performing alongside homegrown artist Angie Colman, the ARIA award-winning rock band — renowned for its hit single That’s When I Think of You — will tear up Sir Mitchell Park on February 24.

Since forming in 1987, the four-man band has won three ARIA awards and has averaged a staggering 50 shows every year for the past decade.

The band’s Perth-based frontman Erik Weideman said he was finally looking forward to performing on home soil.

“I don’t get to do many gigs in Perth, it’s mainly on the east coast and everywhere else, so I always look forward to doing a show here because I live here,” he said.

“We’ll (the band) get together and have a bit of a laugh and just enjoy what we’re about to do, we always enjoy what we’re doing.

“We just have to make sure we’ve got our set list together and play as best as we can.”

Like a Version star Jem Cassar-Daley, a proud Gumbaynggirr Bundjalung woman, will headline the city’s second free concert, Sounds of Bunuru at Ryrie Park on March 23.

The Voice Australia finalist Bojesse Pigram and Indigenous Act of the Year winners Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse will also join the Sounds of Bunuru line-up.

“We’re exceptionally proud of the quality of the all-Aussie line-ups we’ve curated for these concerts,” South Perth mayor Greg Milner said.

“Sounds in the Park and Sounds of Bunuru are showcasing the very best of Australian talent and we are just so pleased to bring such exceptional artists to our community.

“I encourage all community members to walk or cycle down to enjoy world-class music in the beautiful surrounds of South Perth and Como.”

Sounds in the Park and Sounds of Bunuru are sponsored by Lotterywest in partnership with Mentally-Healthy’s Act Belong Commit campaign.

“To everyone reading, come along and have a good time,” Weideman said.

“We’re looking forward to playing your show for the people of Perth. Hopefully it isn’t a blistering hot day!”
